RIVERSIDE, CALIF., - Honoring the hundreds of men and women who volunteer to keep their communities safe, Riverside County Board of Supervisors today proclaimed April 27 through May 3, 2008 as Volunteer Firefighter Week.
The Supervisors presented a proclamation to the Riverside County Volunteer Firefighters Association, recognizing the many professionally trained men and women for their dedication and commitment to the residents of Riverside County as part of the Annual National Volunteer Week.
The Volunteer Firefighters of Riverside County do, year in and year out, give untold hours of their time to protect the lives and property of the residents of our county from fires, emergencies, disasters of all types and save the taxpayers of the county millions of dollars annually due to their training, dedication to duty and competence.
Each and every day, hundreds of highly-trained citizen volunteers throughout the County donate their time,as well as risk their lives to help protect residents from fire and emergencies.
The hundreds of volunteers are so honored to have been recognized by those who we volunteer to protect, stated Angel Sanchez, a Volunteer Fire Lieutenant based out of Fire Station #16
Riverside County Volunteer Firefighters are professionally trained firefighters serving the unincorporated communities within Riverside County as well as the many Cities that contract with the County for firefighting and medical services. They serve their communities by responding to fires, medical calls, traffic accidents, hazardous material incidents and other emergencies. The Volunteer Firefighters in Riverside County undergo medical screenings, driver's license verifications, as well as criminal background checks, which currently exceeds the standards enforced by the State of Calfornia for it's firefighting personnel in Riverside County.
